Viennese Tales: Beethoven, Schubert and the Art of Musical Storytelling

  • The James Library and Center for the Arts 24 West Street Norwell, MA 02061 (map)

Join us in the South Shore area for our Viennese Tales benefit concert fund raiser for the Yes! Academy, which is part of a nonprofit organization called American Voices, that promotes cross cultural exchanges, particularly in war-torn and conflict ridden areas. Pianist and Yes! Academy volunteer faculty Alison Shamlian will speak about the work the Yes! Academy international music program does to offer instruction and performance opportunities to students in recently stabilized areas.

The theme of our benefit concert will be Beethoven, in honor of the 250th anniversary of his birth, and will include his Variations on a Theme from Magic Flute and his third cello sonata, as well as Schubert’s Arpeggione sonata. Beethoven said that there was always either a story or an image behind all the pieces he composed, and we will endeavor to intersperse our program with stories surrounding their creation, as well as ideas and images they inspire. CLick here to view the visual presentation for the concert!
